Mindset: The Hidden Foundation of Strength and Conditioning… And Everything Else.

IMG 1404

If you’ve been following our blogs or tuning into our quickcasts, you might’ve noticed a pattern: almost everything we talk about ties back to mindset.

I didn’t plan it that way—but for me, mindset is everything. It’s the foundation for how I interpret and interact with the world. It frames the story I tell myself about my life, and that story directly affects how I live it.

In many ways, mindset is perspective. It’s the lens through which we experience the world.

Picture two identical people. They look at the same challenge—one says, “I can do it,” the other says, “I can’t.” They’re both right.

Two people face a tough spot in life. One sees an opportunity for growth. The other sees a reason to give up, turn around, or stay stuck.

Mindset shapes everything we do. That’s why I believe it’s one of the most important things we can learn to understand. It’s low-hanging fruit in a way—because just realizing you can shift your mindset is incredibly powerful. Huge, positive changes in your life often start there.

But simple doesn’t mean easy.

Changing your mindset takes work. More importantly, it takes awareness. You have to know what your current mindset is, what lens you’re looking through—and be willing to try new ones when the old ones stop serving you. You’re going to screw up. You’re going to adopt mindsets that don’t work. That’s normal. It’s part of the process.

Katie (my wife) loves to tease me because I’ll get into something new—some exciting idea or practice—and dive into it for 2 to 4 weeks before moving on. We laugh about it. But honestly? I’m proud of that. Trying new things, even for a short time, gives me insight. I don’t have to adopt every new habit for life. But little pieces stick. Over time, they build into lasting habits and knowledge I wouldn’t have gained otherwise.

That same openness applies to mindset. You have to be willing to explore new perspectives—even (and especially) when it feels uncomfortable.

You also need to be around people who share that drive for growth. When it comes to health and fitness, nothing compares to the energy of a strong community. At CrossFit Formidable, that’s exactly what we have—over 150 people from all walks of life, all ages, all backgrounds—investing in their health, their fitness, and their future.

That’s what makes a great gym different from the rest. And it’s what I love most about our gym in Canby.

Every day I see strength and dedication from the athletes at CrossFit Formidable. It’s inspiring. And honestly, it’s often overlooked. But the energy in a place where people show up consistently—on good days, bad days, and all the messy in-between days—is incredible. We’re talking about people with wildly different beliefs, careers, experiences, and stories, all showing up to become healthier, stronger, and happier versions of themselves.

It’s a gift to be part of that. Truly.

So thank you to all our athletes at CFF. And if you’re searching for a new mindset, if you’re stuck, uninspired, or just looking for a place to grow—we’re here for you. Whether you’re interested in personal trainingstrength and conditioning, or just want to find one of the most supportive gyms near you, we’ve got a spot waiting for you.
